Welcome

Welcome to the blog of Alpacas at Bear Creek. We are a small herd of lovingly cared for alpacas raised on the beautiful North Oregon Coast.
Pat and I started raising alpacas about 4 years ago. How we got started is actually pretty amazing.

It all started when I sold my hair salon and wanted to sort of work from home. We have 23 acres of land and we were wanting some sort of situation that would allow us to utilize the property. I reasearched dogs, cattle, emu, ostrich, and even Christmas trees. Then one day I happened upon alpacas. I did alot of searching around Alpacanation, Ideal Alpaca, Alpaca Owners and Breeders etc. I knew we should at the very least go visit a farm. Then one morning while Pat was getting ready to leave for work, a local television station had a woman and her alpaca on. They were talking about an Alpaca County Faire that was coming up. So, I told Pat, "We should go have a look, at least we will know if it is, or is not for us". That weekend we drove to Portland for the Faire. When we arrived, we were greeted by a gentleman who told us about the Alpaca Treasure Hunt. We were intrigued to say the least. The requirements were to visit as many farms as you could over the course of the weekend and then submit a letter about what you learned. Grand prize....A pair of alpaca geldings.

Well, that was 4 years ago, it seems like just yesterday we were bringing our 2 alpaca geldings home with Nomad who made the transition easier for Jupiter and Frazer. Now we are 21 alpacas with one more on the way anytime, an we would not change a thing.

If you or anyone you know is considering the alpaca business, drop us a line, we would love to chat.
